Whanganui River

A large river, one of the waters used in the 2008 World Fly Fishing Championships. Good access is provided by SH4, south of the town of Taumarunui. Here there are numerous good fishing pools, with a high population of rainbow and brown trout averaging about 1.2kg with the occasional much bigger fish.

Waihou River

A large spring-fed river with a high trout population in pristine, crystal clear water. One of the sites of the 2008 World Fly Fishing Championships. The Waihou meanders across open farmland with short, deep pools and long cobblestone runs offering a variety of attractive trout fishing water. Excellent access is provided by a walkway running alongside the river. Just a short drive from the town of Putaruru on SH1, about two hours south of Auckland.
